Pub Walk (95) Saturday 7th
December 2019, from the New Inn, Willersey
|
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for
Real Ale
|
Nine walkers turned up at Willersey for the
95th Saturday Pub Walk. This is the third at the New Inn
a Donnington Inn to welcome new tenants. We set off after pre-ordering lunch
and the customary group photo (Photo 1)
A dry
bright day as we headed right out of the car park in a northerly direction
taking the next road left towards Campden. Slight uphill along Campden Lane
past the magnificent Willersey House on the right.
Turning right at the first junction along a
private road but nevertheless a footpath towards Foxhill Manor with stunning
views on the right to the Malverns (Photo

Into the hotel
grounds through a gate (Photo 3)
past a Restaurant. A gap in the hedge on the right is the footpath and right of
way. A small lake is below you and continue south towards woods aiming for the right
edge where the footpath signs appear at a junction of paths. Straight on across
a wooden bridge following the western edge of Bibsworth Covert for three
fields. The last one with several Shetland ponies. (Photo 4).
A main road is heard ahead and two
turnstiles. Sharp left at the second one bearing north east..This path is very
clear and becomes increasingly steep (Photo
5) with magnificent views to the left until reaching Broadway Golf Club. A
seat at the top is very welcome (Photo 6).
Entering woods for a few fields before emerging in the open with more views
until reaching the road (Campden Lane). Two options here; straight ahead on a
footpath to Saintbury Church then left on a path back to Campden Lane or stay
on Campden lane downhill back to Willersey.(Photo 7)
A
great very-good-value lunch was enjoyed (Photos
8 and 9) washed down with a choice of Gold, BB and SBA (Photo 10). A fabulous 4 mile walk
highly recommended with great views
The next walk is the 96th on 4th January at the Stump
at Foss Cross formerly the Hare and Hounds. Previously an Arkells pub but now a
Free House.
