Pub Walk (92) Saturday 4^th May 2019, from the Stag, Stow in the Wold

North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale

Twelve walkers turned up at Stow for the 92^nd Saturday Pub Walk. This is the first at the Stag, previously the White Hart, an Arkells pub. Another walk at Stow but this time a different route.

After gathering outside the pub in the Market Square (Photo 1) and ordering lunch we set off to the West taking the first road on our right on leaving the Square. Bearing Left downhill with views opening up to our right. A water bath for horses appeared on our left (Photo 2) before joining the Monarchs Way which subsequently joined the road to Broadwell (Photo 3). Weather was dry and sunny as we reached the green (Photo 4) and turned Right heading towards Oddington. Shortly a bridleway appeared on our right which we joined. This ran South East for several fields until reaching Black Pit and Dave found a small Shetland (Photo 5). Turning south now across a ploughed field (Photo 6) then joining the main road near Upper Oddington turning Right and West along the verge crossing over at the Rugby Club entrance. At the Southern boundary follow the footpath to the West past stables to the West of Martins Hill. Emerging on the Kingham Road we followed the verge West to the next junction turning Left to Maugersbury (Photo 7). A quiet road with great views to the South before taking the next Right turn back to Stow.

A great lunch was enjoyed (Photos 8, 9 & 10) washed down with a choice of Arkells finest. Hoperation and Seasonal Spring Hopper were favourite.
