Pub Walk (79) Saturday 4th
November 2017, from the New Inn, Willersey
|
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for
Real Ale
|
Fourteen walkers turned up at the New Inn,
Willersey for the 79th Saturday Pub Walk (Photo1). Note more of the group sporting the new North Cotswold
CAMRA burgundy caps available to regular walkers as well as festival helpers.
This walk at the New Inn repeated due to new
Donnington tenants Michelle and Lee Thomas taking over last year. Martin Jones
planned a new route to the West and South of the pub on flat ground including
the outskirts of Broadway.
We set off left out of the car park until
reaching the junction with the B4632 where we picked up a footpath across the
grass area in front of us heading W. Follow the footpath with a new estate to
our right crossing the route of the old railway line. Pausing to regroup (Photo 2) we carried on over a few
fields passing Hayway Farm. Turning South over a few fields crossing Collins
Lane then under the main A44 we came to a bridge over the dismantled railway
line (Photo 3) and to the W could
see the new GWR railway station nearing completion with much track activity (Photo 4). Roll on Easter 2018 for the
opening. Into the outskirts of Broadway on a very fine area with a large teddy
bear (Photo 5 ) in the grounds of a
very well kept garden to our left (Photo

Turning left and East at Broadway behind the Lygon Arms
for a few hundred yards before picking up a footpath on our left heading North.
Past a small field with one of our very well fed mascots resting in the sun (Photo 7)
Continuing North on a footpath under the A44
again then picking up that railway line again reduced to a narrow overgrown
footpath (Photo 8) Heading NE for
several hundred yards before turning East on a clear path to our right into
Willersey outskirts and back to the main road and right, back to the pub.
Donnington
Beer, all three varieties in excellent condition and a good value lunch (Photo 9 and 10). An excellent walk and
many thanks to Martin Jones.
The next walk is the 80th of the
series on Saturday 2nd Dec
2017 at the Black
Horse Inn, Naunton.
