Pub Walk (77) Saturday 6th
May 2017, from the Sherborne Arms, Aldsworth
|
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for
Real Ale
|
Thirteen
walkers turned up at the Sherborne Arms,
Aldsworth for the 77th Saturday Pub Walk (Photo1) Weather was sunny and dry as we
set off after ordering lunch. Heading right from the car park and right into
the village then left at the war memorial then second left to the church (Photo 2).
Do
not go into the church yard but take a footpath to the left just before the
church. The footpath runs to the south of Aldsworth
Manor, and crosses two fields and joins
the road at New Cottages. Cross the road and take the next road South towards Coln St Aldwyns.
After
a good mile and past Swire Barton Farm take a bridleway to the left now heading
East. After a mile continue into woods called Bibury
Ground turning right then left reaching Dean Farm (Photo 3) Bear right staying on the bridleway heading North for a
further mile turning Left at Ledbarrow Farm (Photo 4) Follow the lane for another
mile (Photo 5) heading West. At the
main road turn Right back to the pub (Photo
6 and 7).
An
easy 5.5 mile walk with gentle hills along well defined tracks suitable for all
weathers and a great pub unknown to some of our party. A free house with a
preference for Green King Beers but today included Dairy Gold from TAP Brewery
(Photo 8) which went down very well.
Lunch (Photo 9 and 10) was excellent and good
value
The
next walk is the 78th of the series on Saturday 7th October 2017 at the Mechanical Music Museum,
Northleach, the first after the Summer Festival Break.
