Pub Walk (73) Saturday 7th
January 2017, from the Inn For All Seasons, Little Barrington
|
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for
Real Ale
|
Sixteen walkers and black lab Maisie turned up at the Inn for All Seasons for the 73rd
of our Saturday Pub Walks. The second time at this pub due to a change of
landlords and on a new route devised by Martin Jones. Weather was cold and dry
as we set off after the team photo (Photo1).
Heading right from the car park towards Cheltenham in a Westerly direction then
immediately right past the pub through the back garden and onto a footpath
heading North into woods.
Continuing across three fields then left when
level with Green Drive Farm. A good view of Barrington Park House is a feature
of this stretch which dominates the Windrush Valley.
Easy walking across four more fields led us to the pretty village of Windrush and a pause at the Church (Photo 2) to regroup. We carried on through the village then took a
path to our right heading North again and downhill towards the river past an
inquisitive horse (Photo 3) who
welcomed some attention (Photo 4)
past the Mill and into open country beyond (Photo 5).
Continued North for a mile past the deserted
Manor Farm and paused to regroup (Photo
6) at a junction of paths turning right and South to Barrington past Furzehill Leys. We joined the Rissington road at the Deer
Park and could see the herd of deer in the distance as we headed downhill to
Great Barrington picking up a footpath ahead that crossed the river via a
diverted path at Barrington Mill.
Emerging at Middle Road and right to Little
Barrington and left through the village and uphill towards the A40 but taking a
footpath to our right uphill across two fields and back into the previous woods
and to the Pub car park (Photo 7). A
longer walk than normal but an excellent run out after the Xmas indulgence and
a welcome lunch (Photo 8 and 9) organized by Landlady Melanie. A
fresh barrel of Tribute awaited with Autumn Ale from Wadworths
served by new Landlord Eddie Hillier who is planning to revise his range to
include a local. They were planning to retire back in Northleach after running
a successful hotel in Merthyr but spotted the Inn and
decided to take on this appealing challenge with welcome fresh energy and
improvement plans.
Maisie enjoyed the
walk and splash around and seemed content to stay in the pub for the afternoon
(Photo 10).
The next walk is the 74th of the
series on Saturday 4th Feb 2017 at the Lamb Inn Great Rissington.
