Pub Walk (59) Saturday 28th
March 2015, from the Coach & Horses, Longborough
|
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for
Real Ale
|
The 59th Pub walk started from the Coach &
Horses (Photo 1) when ten
walkers turned up for our fourth walk of 2015. After admiring the large stone Great
Dane and ordering lunch we set off taking the road opposite the pub towards and
past the church then shortly after turning left along a footpath heading North.
Across the first of many styles (Photo 2)
we crossed 5 fields following the Monarchs Way with fine rain continuing as we
turned westwards via Thickleather Coppice.
Signs of Spring here with the first primroses appearing in sheltered
spots.(Photo 3).
At
Upper Rye Farm we turned North then left at the Blackthorns and crossed over
the drive to Seizincote House (Photo 4)
before crossing 3 more fields on the well marked footpath. We could clearly see
Bourton on the Hill to our right (Photo
5) with the weather drying up. Immediately south of Bourton on the Hill we
turned sharp let onto the Heart of England Way ignoring the temptation of
visiting the Horse
& Groom on this occasion.
Crossing over the next style which was well
used (Photo 6) we came to Seizincote
House (Photo 7). A splendid spot
with a unique Indian styled house and a lake worth a future visit for a guided
tour. We hurried on with the weather brightening and enjoying tremendous views
to our left towards Stow.
Soon we
were back at Longborough Church (Photo 8)
emerging close to the pub. Lunch (Photo
9) was rated highly for quality, service and excellent value with a score
of 8. Beer on offer was Donnington Gold and BB with SBA not on this
lunchtime. Most went for the Gold which was a definite 4 served by Landlord Joe
McDonagh (Photo 10) recently of the
New Inn Willersey/
Many Thanks to Martin Jones for running this
great walk and this pub has taken a huge step forward with Joe’s experienced
touch. We highly recommend a visit.
We have organised our 60th Pub
Walk at 1030hrs at the Norman Knight Whichford on 2nd May. This will be a
joint event with Shakespeare and N Oxon CAMRA Branches and is advertised on
their websites and in their magazines.
