Pub Walk (33) Saturday 10th March 2012, from the Crown & Trumpet, Broadway

North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale

The 33rd Pub walk in our series took place on 10th March when eighteen members and friends turned up at Shakespeare’s best pub for 2012. (Photo 1)This joint event drew record attendance on a fine Spring Day with two dogs joining the party.

After meeting the local cat (Photo 2) and sorting out a dog dispute (Photo 3) we ordered our Lunch and set off at 1035hrs heading South along the road towards Snowshill.(Photo 4)

On reaching the church at Broadway Court we turned left through the arch up a bridleway heading East along Coneygree Lane. After half a mile we turned 90 right on the same track before emerging in a field. Ensure your dog is on a lead before entering the field, Continuing up a track across two fields we turned left towards the Rookery then turned left at the next footpath into the Broadway Tower Country Park. Heading North (Photo 5) we passed the tea shop on our right before taking a left turn through a gate (Photo 6) and after a short distance arrived at the famous landmark Broadway Tower.(Photo 7)

A stop to rest at the half way point before taking a left turn at a gate taking us downhill in the direction of Broadway along the Cotswold Way

Easy walking downhill with the sun shining and a wonderful view over Broadway and Evesham (Photo 8) we ended up in Broadway after crossing several field. A left turn through the busy high street before taking the second footpath on our left past a playground.

A footpath on the right took us past stables and a footpath ahead that emerged next to the short stay car park where most of us had parked due to limited space at the front of the Crown &Trumpet

.

Boots removed we were soon back at the Pub where complimentary potato wedges were soon devoured along with excellent Stanway, Lords a Leaping, Butcombe and Cotswold Spring Bitter

Very busy for this Saturday Lunchtime as advised by Landlord Andrew. An excellent walk and pub and thanks to Andrew for the lunch.

Our next walk on 31st March visit’s the Colesbourne Inn on the Cheltenham to Cirencester Road just North of North Cerney. This is one of the very best Wadworths house run by the award winning Trevor and Liz Johnson in a quiet area with outstanding walks recently researched by our tame guide.
