Pub Walk (105) Saturday 2nd
April 2022, from the Farmers Arms, Guiting Power
|
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for
Real Ale
|
Nine walkers turned up in dry weather for the
105th Saturday Pub Walk at the Farmers Arms. A chance to meet the
new tenant of this Donnington Pub in its transformation period. We set off North
West from the car park (Photo 1) after ordering lunch and taking the
customary pub photo (Photo 2). Take the second turn on the Right heading
North
.
At the end of the road, through a gate, to a
footpath heading North East, adjacent to a brook. Over the bridge then right
into a field. Then follow the hedge remaining North East. At Little Windrush
Farm cross two stiles (Photo 3) then left at the road heading West.
After two bends take the footpath to the right into a field heading North. Stay
close to the right hand hedge for two fields. At the road (Photo 4)
which is usually quiet, head North until reaching Kineton. Take the first left
at Home Farm. (A worthwhile alternative is to visit the Halfway House in
Kineton also a Donnington Pub.)
Our route today continued across 4 fields of
good walking with great views heading South West until reaching a stile into a
garden of a dwelling. Descend into the car park then right at the road.
Continue to Critchford Lane and turn left downhill to the Ford. Up hill after
the Ford and turn left at the crossing of paths past the Car Park then on a
track for half a mile heading South East. Left at the farm building taking a
footpath Left into woods. Ignore the farm road ahead. Continue South East
alongside a valley back to Guiting past a variety of interesting properties in
the outskirts.
Back to the pub serving the full Donnington
range, BB, Gold, SBA (Photo 5) served by new Landlord Tom Moore and a
fine lunch (Photo 6) serving generous portions of good value walkers’
food. The garden is worth a visit in warmer weather which is much improved from
previously.
This is the last walk before Walk 106 on 1st
October due to our busy beer festival season starting with Ale and
Steam on 27th to 29th May at GWR Winchcombe and
Toddington Stations.
