Pub Walk (102) Saturday 8th January 2022, from the Churchill Arms, Paxford.

North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale

Eight walkers turned up in wet weather for the 102nd Saturday Pub Walk. This was at the Churchill Paxford. The first walk here but a past GBG pub set in a great walking area. A current Good Pub Guide Dining Pub of the Year. Located north of Blockley on the Ebrington Road.

We set off after taking the customary pub photo (Photo1).

Heading East uphill past then right at a grass triangle. Follow the road uphill for a short distance then take a footpath on the left. Continue uphill North East on a clear track with open views until emerging at the road. Turn right here remaining on the road for over a mile. Watch out for the occasional car or tractor until you reach a crossing of paths where take the right turning leading towards Neighbrook. When the track veers left carry straight on in a South South West direction across a field then a second field (Photo2) emerging through a gate. This second field is the site of the medieval village of Upper Ditchford.

Turn right heading West on the road cross Knee Brook then take a footpath on the right across another two fields emerging on another road (Photo3) straight on here and immediately right alongside the hedge then shortly take the next footpath on the Left skirting South of Bran Mill. Over a stile into a wooded area following the footpath South of the stream to the left. Cross a bridge (Photo 4) then right and North West when emerging from the wooded area. Follow the track for two fields emerging at a road running from Blockley to Paxford. Turn right to Paxford and back to the pub.

Choice of three beers. Churchill Ale (North Cotswold Windrush), Purity UBU and Purity Mad Goose (Photo 5).

Excellent lunch with choice of Bar snacks or main menu. (Photo 6)

Next walk is No 103 at the Bell Inn Alderminster on Saturday 12th February. A first at this Free House in pristine walking country. Park in the large Pub car park and order lunch before setting off at 1030hrs.
