Pub Walk (100) Saturday 6th November 2021, from the Horse
& Groom, BOTH.

Real Ale

Eleven walkers turned up in fine weather for
the 100th Saturday Pub Walk. This was at Bourton on the Hill. The
first walk here due to the limited menu for walkers. Located just west of
Moreton this is fine walking country and has to be included in our walking
archive.
We set off after taking the customary group
photo (Photo 1) outside the pub on the busy A44. Heading East then
immediately right heading South on a lane leading to Home Farm. Soon a footpath
appears on the right with a sign ‘Heart of England Way‘.
Follow this until the first field then turn left,
following the hedge heading east. The footpath is an option when cattle are
grazing, a feature throughout most of this walk permitting field use when
cattle are absent. Follow this path for several fields until emerging at The
Blackthorns on a track south to Upper Rye Farm. Easy flat walking then turn
right, heading West on a surfaced road leading uphill past Rodmore
Coppice.
At the top turn right at a junction of paths,
this is the Heart of England way. The next stretch northpast
Sezincote House is delightful (Photos 2 & 3)
and the house is open to the public at certain times of the year (Photo 4).
Continue north on this path back to the starting point and the Pub.
Two beers on tap, Hooky Bitter and Prescott
Hillclimb. Photo 5 shows our group waiting for lunch to arrive.
Next walk is No 101 at the Fox Inn, Barrington on Sat 4th Dec.
A first at this a Donnington Pub on the River
Windrush in pristine walking country. Meet in the generous pub car park at 1015
to order lunch before setting off at 1030hrs.
