Inter Branch Skittles
Match, 20th November 2009 |
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale |
Earlier in the Year when considering possible events to include in the
programme it was suggested that we organise a skittles match. Having found an
alley at Charlton Kings Club and some challengers from Cheltenham Branch a date
was set. Making extensive use of public Transport and free bus passes Trevor
Carter and his team duly turned up on 20th November to give battle
to the North Cotswold team. The level of interest was high with 23 turning up
in total including several female players probably attracted by the gourmet
supper or maybe the prospect of something different than the usual ale talk.
Charlton Kings Club have a good reputation on the Real Ale front and
Club Steward Terry did not disappoint with excellent Butcombe Bitter, Betty
Stoggs and M&B Dark on offer together with the buffet served at half time.
A pound was collected from each player providing sufficient incentive
for the competition. Taking turns to replace the odd pin knocked down seven
rounds were played with various accountants displaying their prowess at mental
arithmetic.
Cheltenham drew ahead and were the convincing team winners but North
Cotswold claimed the individual results namely Nicky Harvey for the ladies and
Garry Hayward for the gents.
Thanks to the organisers and we look forward to a rematch possibly at
the Seven Tuns Chedworth in 2010.
