North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale

The Mount Inn at Stanton

The Mount Inn at Stanton, part of the Donnington chain, has new Landlords Pip and Karl Baston from 1st September 2008. Previously very successful managers at the Plough at Cold Aston for the past 20 months achieving a great following for the imaginative food and continually offering three real ales. They have swapped BB, Hooky and Pigbrook for BB and SBA. The bad news is swapping 3 for 2. The good news is that one is stronger also they are still on a great walking route swapping the Gloucestershire Way for the Cotswold Way.

They have a hard act to follow taking over from the previous tenants who were at the Mount for 28 years establishing a reputation for well kept Donnington Beer and food mainly for walkers with a considerable lunch time trade in arguably one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds. The view from the front terrace, westwards over the upper reaches of the Severn Valley, is magnificent.

Pip covers front of house and Karl is head Chef also bringing their second chef from the Plough, so the team will very shortly transform the menu but will still cater for walkers with snacks/sandwiches and will also offer Tapas.

North Cotswold CAMRA wish them well and have already organised an evening social there on 30th October and will be organising a walk around the Mount on a Saturday in the new year.

Meanwhile The Plough at Cold Aston is running under the direct management of the owners and a report on the recent walk there is on our website and we hope that the very high standards are maintained.
