Pub of the Year 2009. Presentation Evening, Thursday 21st June.

North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale

An excellent turnout of nineteen members participated in a unique evening to present the Pub of the Year Certificate for 2009 to the Ebrington Arms.

Subsidised transport for this official event ensured that the excellent real ale on offer was thoroughly tasted along with that offered by the joint runners up The Craven Arms at Brockhampton and The Bakers Arms at Broad Campden.

To soak up the beer a Safari 3 course Meal was organised consisting of a starter at the Craven, the main course at the Ebrington and a sweet at the Bakers which helped to ensure full support from the ladies.

Some said this was too ambitious even including ‘in search of mild’ offering from the Ebrington supporting Mild in May month, however our new Hon Secretary Nicky Harvey was undaunted and organised the whole evening including the menus, ordering, budget and payments en route. Many thanks to Nicky and to Martyn Herbert and Dawn Harrison for the bus and feeder taxi respectively.

POTY this year was decided by a sub committee visiting the top three ranked 2010 GBG entrants in one evening judging them by using the standard CAMRA POTY categories. Thanks to Martyn Herbert, Dick Harrison and Peter Rowe together with GBG Co-ordinator Roger Price.

This process worked very well and in view of the successful format adopted this year with recognition to all three it may become our annual approach to this very important task.

Our Chairman was kept busy with presentations of framed certificates to respectively:-

Jim and Claire Alexander                           POTY Ebrington Arms

Bob and Barbara Price  & son Sam          POTY Runner Up (Craven Arms)

Ray and Sally Mayo                                    POTY Runner Up (Bakers Arms)

Congratulations to all three teams who run such fine establishments.

The Ebrington Arms has subsequently received much endorsement from visitors, local community and the Press. We wish them well as they are subjected to further judging by other Branches from the SW Region for the SW Regional Champion.
