7th Day Out to Kidderminster &
Bewdley, Saturday 17th April 2010 |
North Cotswold Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale |
This was our 7th day out since the Branch was set up. We have previously sampled the real ale delights in Cirencester (2004), Cheltenham (2005), Gloucester (2006), Oxford (2007), Worcester (2008), and Bristol (2009). This year it was Kidderminster & Bewdley’s turn to offer us their wares. The weather was again kind to us, being warm & sunny.
Most of us travelled to Kidderminster by train from Moreton in Marsh or Cheltenham.
From 11:00 am onwards we met at the King & Castle, which is
part of the building complex at Kidderminster Station of the SVR. Most of us
enjoyed a pint or two of
Batham Bitter here. Then we caught the 11:40 am Severn Valley Railway
Train to Bewdley, arriving
at 11:54. Our train engine shown
opposite, 6695, was on loan from the Swanage Railway. |

|
After arriving at Bewdley Station we set off to walk to the first pub on our itinerary. The route took us along the River Severn (See photo left) before crossing over by the bridge in the distance. |
After a stiff walk up the hill from the River, we arrived at the Black Boy, 50 Wyre Hill, DY12 2UE. |
|
|
The pub had a delightful rear garden which we enjoyed while supping excellent real ale. |
Then back down the hill to the Woodcolliers Arms, 76 Welch Gate, DY12 2AU. Here we stopped for lunch. After this pub the group split, meeting up again at the Mug House Inn. One group headed for Bewdley Brewery, some went shopping, and the rest headed for the next pub, the Little Pack Horse, 31 High Street, DY12 2DH |

|
Here we are
re-united again at the Mug House Inn, 5 Severnside North, DY12
2EE. Most of us sampled Bewdley Brewery’s Old School Bitter. The pub was
located on the banks of the river. We all enjoyed drinking beer on the
riverside before setting off back home. Some of us caught the 15:51 pm and others the 17:04 pm
Severn Valley Railway Train back from Bewdley to Kidderminster, before
continuing to our respective destinations. We all thoroughly enjoyed this
“day out”. |
