Moreton roadworks will delay motorists

Wednesday, January 27, 2010, 11:20

TRAFFIC delays are set to hit Moreton-in-Marsh as roadworks will close its main route for two days.

Essential resurfacing work will be carried out on the A429 Fosseway, the town's High Street, on the weekend of February 20 and 21.

The main arterial link must be closed so work can be done safely.

There will be no access through the works during the day, evening or overnight.

To ease pressure on the town over the weekend, parking will be prohibited on New Road, Station Road and East Street.

New Road and Station Road will temporarily be put back to a two-way street.

General roadworks will begin on February 8, including kerb repairs, widening and pedestrian island works.

They will be carried out under traffic light control, excluding market day on Tuesday.

Gloucestershire Highways project manager

Martyn Bastock said: "Both residents and drivers are asked to be patient throughout this period of disruption and we'll make every effort to minimise the inconvenience."

Moreton county councillor

Barry Dare said: "We would appreciate the cooperation of residents and motorists as we will all see the

long-term benefits of the scheme will outweigh any short-term delays."
